Clint Newell Auto Group is a dealer group located in Roseburg, Oregon. They sell Toyota, Chevrolet, GMC, and Buick vehicles. They also run a service center, collision center, and a car rental station. For a lean IT team, managing a robust network is not easy. This now group depends on the Meraki cloud-managed solution to keep its network running efficiently and to keep its employees connected.

Clint Newell operates three separate lots, as you could imagine, this caused quite a few headaches for networking. The group was using access points that were very outdated and it was difficult for the group to share internal resources securely between the lots. They lacked consistency in the wireless meshing around the property for mobile employees. Also, mobile employees had difficulty with consistency using the wireless network.

Why Cisco Meraki?

Meraki was the ideal solution to the many problems that Clint Newell employees were facing. Meraki’s cloud solution offered flexibility and the ability to customize everything. New AP’s would help provide reliable connection in their environment. The IT department would now have great network visibility, which saved time and money!

To get started, the Clint Newell group trialed Meraki APs, MS Switches, MX Security Appliances. Seven MS320-48 switches and many MS220-8 switches provided virtual stacking, easy VLAN control, remote troubleshooting, and network-wide visibility.

The MX400 UTM, which acts as six devices in one, was installed. The UTM (Unified Threat Management) solution offered firewall, intrusion prevention, auto VPN, content filtering, anti-malware, and failover. The group had over 100 iPhones, iPads, Windows desktops, and other devices licensed in Systems Manager to push apps, enable location tracking, and enforce iOS restrictions.

After the deployment, results were better than expected. The sales team was able to roam the lots (inside and outside) with their tablets and quickly access customer info. All three of the lots were safely connected and had the ability to share internal resources and WiFi. The location tracking kept track of company devices and had the ability to wipe the device if one were to go missing. Time was saved with the remote troubleshooting via the Meraki Dashboard. Deep visibility and health tracking helped the lean IT team tremendously to manage their network.
